Last Minute Gifts for the Local Foodies on your List

Skip the trip to Williams Sonoma and wrap the gift of good taste by supporting your local food businesses! Here are a few that you’ll find under our tree this year.

THE DECK, BY CLEVELAND INDEPENDENTS

There’s no better way to support your favorite independents than with The Deck. Stacked with 50 cards, all featuring creative discounts at different local food establishments, you just can’t lose. Who wouldn’t love to receive $10 off a $30 food purchase at places like Flying Fig, fire food and drink, Paladar and Luxe? It’s a novel idea, packaged perfectly and priced affordably at $29.95.

SWEETS

For those without calorie cutting resolutions this year, the 12- or 24-piece box of Lilly’s Handmade Chocolates is a must. Lilly’s has been our go-to hostess gift for five years running. Always a conversation piece, the artful contents of each pink and black box will delight at first sight.

One quick trip into Sweet Moses, located a few blocks away from Spice Headquarters in the Gordon Square Arts District, and you’ll walk away with some very special stocking stuffers for the good kids on your list. Grab a bag of homemade confections or one of many from-scratch popcorn flavors to take home…but only after you belly up to the bar for a Shoreway Sundae.

FARMERS’ MARKET DONATIONS

Our local farmers’ markets are supported, in part, by good people like you who believe that seasonal foods should take center stage on the dinner table. While the week before Christmas may be a bit too late to buy a handful of market coins, you can still make donations on your gift recipient’s behalf to help our markets maintain their status as some of the best in the country! Check out these links for some options on how to give the gift of green to some very deserving organizations: Countryside Conservancy, North Union Farmers Markets and Growhio. COOKBOOKS BY CLEVELAND AUTHORS

Our top picks:
The Locavore’s Kitchen, A Local Cook’s Guide to Seasonal Eating and Cooking, by Marilou Suszko

They Draw & Cook, 107 Recipes Illustrated by Artists from Around the World, by Salli Swindell

And, for the Food Network fans on your list:

Ruhlman’s Twenty: 20 Techniques 100 Recipes A Cook’s Manifesto, by Michael Ruhlman

Michael Symon’s Live to Cook: Recipes and Techniques to Rock your Kitchen, by Michael Symon

SPICE GIFT CERTIFICATES

We would be remiss not to mention our own gift certificates, which just arrived hot off the press. For those who love the intrigue of buying the unknown, we have Spice Kitchen + Bar gift certificates, available in any denomination. Spice of Life Catering Co. just printed off a new batch of 2012 Plated Landscapes Dinner gift certificates for $150/each – ideal for the fancy foodie aunt who has everything…or that last minute client gift.

Just give Jess a call at 216.432.9090 to order. We can overnight them for a small fee by December 23rd (orders must be in by 11am!), or you can schedule a time for pick up this week at Spice Headquarters.

From all of us here at Spice – have a healthy, happy, merry delicious holiday season!
