Four years ago, Liz Andjeski helped her sister Jess with a Spice of Life catering gig. It was then that her whole perspective on finding happiness in the workplace changed. As a former logistics coordinator for a design firm, Liz spent most of her days emailing folks who live on other continents. As Spice of Life’s Office Manager, she now works directly with individuals in our community – farmers and their families, small businesses, and Pastor Cilantro too! There are few professions that top the physical and mental stresses of cooking in a professional kitchen. That’s probably why plenty of TV shows have been dedicated to the glamour, guts and glory of the field. But when it comes to accolades and appreciation, catering cooks always get the short end of the stick. Maybe it’s because most people associate catering with troughs of chicken marsala and crusty mac & cheese, (both are very much missing from our custom menus, BTW), or maybe it’s because reviewers can’t simply walk through a door on any given day and start Yelping. When well-known chefs Heather Haviland (owner of Lucky’s Café) and Andy Strizak (Director of Operations at Spice of Life) wed on a Monday (that’s a Saturday in chef-time) in the fall of 2010, it was a sensational pairing. Add Spice of Life Catering Co. to the mix and you have yourself one very delicious occasion. With the enlisted help of Chef Ben Bebenroth and his crew (Andy was not yet with Spice at the time), the party went off without a hitch.
